How to Change the Skin of VLC Media Player?

Did you know? you can change the skin of VLC media player. You will find this option in ‘Preferences’. Open VLC media player. From menu, select Tools and then choose last option, that is Preferences. You may press Ctrl+P to directly open ‘Preferences’. Here you will see Interface Settings. There is a choice regarding Look and feel. Use native style is selected by default. If you want, you can make some changes in the native skin style of VLC media player. These changes are not actually change the design of native style skin, but they will set how the player should work. For example, Show controls in full screen mode, Start in minimal view mode, Pause playback when minimized, Resize interface to video size, etc.

Select Use custom skin to change the skin of VLC Media Player. You will see the computer file path provided to the another VLC media player skin by default. The name of this another skin is default.vlt. Click Save and close VLC media player and then open it again. You can see the changed interface and skin of VLC media player.

Again go into ‘Preferences’. Select ‘Use custom skin’. You will see the link to VLC skins website. On this page, you can browse through the VLC media player skins. Click on the skin of your choice. Scroll down to the download link and download it. Move downloaded VLT skin file to C:Program FilesVideoLANVLCskins, that is the skins folder in the VLC installation directory. In case of Linux or Unix, move that file to ~/.local/share/vlc/skins2. There is also the link to download all VLC media player skins at once.

Now come to VLC media player. You are in the Preferences – Interface settings. In ‘Look and feel’ section, you selected ‘Use custom skin’. You have to provide the path to skin resource file. Click Choose… and provide the path to the skin of your choice. Save changes, close VLC media player and then again open it. You will see VLC media player in the skin of your choice.
